When we first learned about this story we were excited that the reunion took place very close to us at Quince Orchard Veterinary Hospital (QOVH) in Gaithersburg, Maryland!
It’s the story of a Pomeranian that had been missing for four months and how one young man stepped in and made an amazing discovery.
Dr. Giebel, owner of QOVH, informed us that this young man’s family is a client at his veterinary hospital, and that he stepped in when many others, particularly of his age, might not have.
Dominic-Maximilian Duncan noticed a dog in a sports complex area and kept an eye to see if anyone seemed to own it. After nobody seemed to be associated with the dog, he slowly gained the dog’s trust to secure it and took him home that night to provide safety. The next day the dog was brought in to QOVH and scanned for a microchip.
Low and behold, the chip was detected, and it was determined that the dog, now known to be named Areli, had been reported as missing from Richmond, Virginia back in November 2016.

This story is a reminder to share … if you or someone you know spot a dog (or cat) that seems lost, don’t just ignore it. Do something, even if it’s to report a sighting with the location, date, and time! If you can intercede safely to try to get the pet scanned for a microchip do so. You just don’t know whose beloved pet you might assist in reuniting.
