Fancy’s 900 Mile Flight Back Home

In June 2015 “Fancy” was adopted from the Cheaha Regional Humane Society (CRHS) in Alabama by Pat and Sam Jordan.  The couple indicates that in April 2016, Fancy was stolen from their yard while on a tie out in their yard to exercise.  Their other dog, a Great Dane named Mabel, also went missing.   Despite a community-wide multi-day search undertaken for the Jordans by a local church neither dog was found.

Fast forward to late August 2016, when Fancy was found in Pennsylvania as a stray, and thankfully brought into Bucks County SPCA (BCSPCA).  The shelter scanned her and were able to trace her microchip back to the Jordans!  As you can imagine they were ecstatic to learn that she was safe.  Since Sam is now wheelchair-bound, the couple was unable to travel the long journey from Alabama to Pennsylvania to reclaim her.

In stepped a team to make the reunion happen!

Fancy flies home

Pilot Jack Merritt and Upper Bucks shelter Director Vanly Pierson are flying Fancy the first leg of her journey home.

As it turns out, BCSPCA Board Member Jack Merritt, is a pilot and also volunteers with Pilots N Paws, a national non-profit that coordinates pet reunion flights!

And so, on Saturday morning September 10, Jack and BCSPCA Upper Bucks Shelter Director Vanly Pierson flew the first leg of the journey with Fancy, and then transferred her to the next volunteer pilot in Roanoke, VA.

Pat and Sam Jordan, along with CRHS staff met Fancy at her arrival destination, the Anniston Regional Airport in Alabama, followed by a police escort for the drive home.

The entire 900-mile journey was accomplished in a single day!

“We are delighted to be able to partner to help Fancy get back to her waiting owners,” stated Linda Reider, BCSPCA Executive Director. “Registered microchips and collars with current identification are critical to getting pets back when they are lost or stolen. Without a microchip, Fancy might never have been returned to the Jordan family.”

Fancy is now home, thanks to a registered and updated microchip and the assistance of multiple rescue committed organizations.

We can only imagine how thrilled the Jordans are to have their little terrier Fancy back home.  We hope that Great Dane Mabel will one day also be reunited to complete their family.
