We loved with a love that was more than love

Last night I sat and watched Edgar Allan and Poe peacefully dreaming.  As embarrassing as it is to admit, I do that often. It brings me so much happiness to see both of them so content and calm. Last night was a bit different.  I sat there thinking about where Edgar had been a year ago.  A year ago last night, Edgar was sleeping at the MDSPCA in a kennel. A year ago, it was his last time ever sleeping in a kennel for the rest of his life! Today marks our 1 year adoptaversary as many call it.image1

It’s amazing how time flies by so quickly.  Within this past year, Edgar Allan has grown from an unsure puppy into a confident, secure, much loved dog. Not only loved by me, but by his wonderful extended family and his big brother Poe. I learned he was not 3 years old, but probably 8 or 9 months old when I adopted him.  I found out that Edgar Allan had a few quirks. From these quirks, we have become an even more amazing team by working on his training together.

I learned that soft toys with squeakies don’t stand a chance against Edgar Allan. I realized that there is such thing as love at first sight. As well as, when Edgar Allan is sick or in pain, I will do any and everything to make him feel better again. My needs have become second to his.  Without hesitation, I will pass on buying a new pair of shoes so Edgar Allan will be able to enjoy a fun playgroup every Sunday afternoon. Edgar Allan may cause me frustration at times, but the happiness he provides me has no limits. We have learned to be calmer and manage our anxieties together. Edgar Allan has helped me to become a better person. I am grateful for this and for him.trainingsmiles2

group picEdgar Allan has made so many new dog friends this past year and because of this, I have made so many wonderful new friends too.  Without these friends Edgar Allan and I would not be where we are today.  Their encouragement and support has been immeasurable. Edgar Allan has inspired me to help even more homeless animals and become more philanthropic.  I’ve learned there are so many other ways to help animals in need. There is so much more of Edgar Allan and Poe’s journey I haven’t been able to tell you about and I can’t wait to.

Dale, one of our new friends and the MDSPCA volunteer who introduced Edgar Allan to me that wonderful day recently told me, “There are times when someone meets a dog and you say to yourself “That’s a match, it’s meant to be” That was one of those times.”  I couldn’t agree more Dale.  So happy 1 Year adoptaversary Edgar Allan. Thank you for picking me to be your human. I love you with all my heart.
