Arizona Humane Society holiday miracle reunion and protecting YOUR pet

Happy New Year!

We know it will be an especially happy one for those pet owners who have been reunited with their once missing pets.

Today’s post is in three parts:

  • our weekly Microchip Miracle Story, this week a holiday reunion from the Arizona Humane Society
  • why and how YOU can be sure your dog OR cat is chipped and tagged
  • the role and power of the free lost and found database HeLPingLostPets.com

Holiday Miracle

A huge thank you to the Arizona Humane Society for this holiday microchip miracle story from last December!   As noted on their blog that shares other microchip reunions,

“It was nothing short of a holiday miracle when 8-year-old Boston Terrier Lily and her mom, Maria, were reunited after Lily had been missing for one and a half years! It was July 2014 when Lily got spooked and ran off as her mom was taking out the garbage. Maria searched day and night for her, even offering a reward, and never gave up hope that they would be reunited someday. Now the two are back together, all because of a microchip. Had Lily not been microchipped, the two would never have seen each other again, a frightening thought for Maria and her family.”

Love Tag Chip

In 2016 we started this blog Monday Microchip Miracles for two reasons.

  1. to give hope to those who have lost pets that are microchipped that they too might one day get that “miracle” call, and to be sure to keep their contact info updated (and double check that it is registered)
  2. to increase awareness by dog AND cat owners of the importance of microchips, whether they feel their pet may never get separated for them or not.  Many of the stories we share are of pets that went missing unexpectedly.  Yet, had it not been for their microchip they might never have found their way home, be it a few months or YEARS later!

And so, as we start a new year, we wanted to use this 1st post of the year to really drive home the importance of pet owners to take the step NOW to microchip their pet.  If already chipped, go get the chip scanned and make sure it is registered with up-to-date info.  Like any other “resolution” getting started soon is important.

We also want to make sure you are aware of our Love Tag Chip Challenge!  By taking it you will even get a free thank you from our supporters at Pet Hub!

While a chip is vital, so too is having a tag as a companion safety measure.

So take the challenge now by clicking here!

The role and power of HeLPingLostPets

Thanks to our friends at HeLPingLostPets for sharing this story/post on their FB page recently about a lucky reunion non microchip reunion thanks to their site.

“We often hear of long term reunions as a result of a microchip. This is not one of those cases. This reunion happened with no microchip. Here’s the story:

Samus slipped out the door unnoticed when friends were visiting back in May 2015. Her family searched for her and listed her on HelpingLostPets.com (HeLP). In Dec 2016, after 18 months missing, someone posted a photo of a Found cat on a Facebook page. Fortunately, someone else that knew about HeLP saw the photo and checked the website and made the match to her Lost listing.

We also want to reinforce with cat owners how critical chips are for them, as many cats that go missing may be harder to be viewed by the public as “missing” given so many ferals and strays.  So the part of the public to get involved in helping to trap and check for a microchip may be even greater than with dogs.

The HeLP map makes it easier to search for pets in a given area no matter when the listing was added.

Now, we don’t want you to get the impression that you don’t need to microchip your pet. We believe you should, because it increases the odds of you getting your pet home if they ever go missing. But, we do want you to know that if every lost and found pet was listed in one database there would be so many more reunions like this. We also want you to know that it was one volunteer that ultimately made the connection that brought Samus home and in the end the volunteers using HeLP and volunteer groups we partner with means every pet has a better chance to get home.

So Microchip your pet, keep tags on your pet and if your pet ever does go missing, list with us at www.HelpingLostPets.com/PET

You can also sign up to receive alerts of lost pets in your area so you can assist a pet owner in need of help!

Remember to microchip, register, and keep your contact info updated!

Even if your pet has gone missing and it’s been some time, you might one day get that miracle call!
